Dear Scarecrow Makers,

We are hoping that you will be entering the Scarecrow Trail again this year & a very warm welcome to first timers.

**We are sending out information much earlier this year to allow schools & church groups to make their scarecrows at the end of the Summer Term. Scarecrow making is also a great activity to do during the school summer holidays.

**There will be one continuous Scarecrow Trail again this year, with a shortened form of the Trail which is very popular for the less mobile.

**As last year we will have our “Best Public Highway Entry” for entries which come from outside the North Huntington area. These will be displayed on the public highway scattered around the Trail. In fairness to North Huntington residents these entries will not be included in any of the other categories.

**We will continue with the recycling stalls around the Trail. Recyclers’ stalls can be in operation on either or both days.

**We are planning to further develop some areas which had not so many scarecrows in previous years. We do understand the frustration of Scarecrow Makers who spend a long time making their scarecrows & then have few people visiting theirs!

** A taxi/mini bus service will be available again this year. Whilst this service is meant primarily for the elderly & infirm, it will be available for any Scarecrow Trail Quizzers to use.

**We will be having eleven categories of prizes this year. These will be as follows:

*Best Scarecrow Entry as voted for by the public.

*Best Shop or Business entry

*Best Story Character/s (e.g. Hansel & Gretel)

*Best TV Character/s (e.g. Bob the Builder)

*Best Scene Display (e.g farmyard) will win the Howard Elders Cup

*Most Amusing Entry

*Best Public Highway entry (for entries made outside of North Huntington)

*Best Diamond Jubilee themed entry

*Best Olympic Games themed entry

*Best Organisation entry (church, charity, school)

*Best Traditional Scarecrow (one made of straw) will win the Louise Corrigan Cup.

(Note: The Scarecrow Trail was first started by Howard Elders in 2008. Although Howard has now retired as a Trustee,

he still enters a scarecrow scene every year. Louise Corrigan has just recently resigned after serving as a Trustee for 14years.

Louise was hugely involved in organising much of the building works & also dealt with the day to day correspondence. Louise enters at least two scarecrows every year.

The Trustees are immensely grateful to Howard & Louise for all their hard work over so many years.)

All entrants will be awarded a Rosette. In addition, the winners of all the various categories will receive a Certificate & a prize.

As usual, we would like every entry to have a title (which will form part of the Scarecrow Trail Quiz). All entries will receive a number & a printed title of their scarecrow &/or scene. These will need to be pinned to the main scarecrow or in a very prominent position. These numbers & titles will form the basis of the Scarecrow Trail Quiz.

We are very hopeful to increase the number of scarecrow exhibits this year – do let us know if you have a friend or neighbour who would like to join in the fun & we will deliver the necessary information to them. We hope we will reach the100 mark!

THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS FRIDAY 31 AUGUST

This will give the Scarecrow Trail organisers some time to prepare the numbers & scarecrow titles & deliver them to you.

RECYCLING EVENT 2012

This year we are continuing the “recycling event” to run alongside the main Scarecrow Trail. This is very simply done – you put a table on your drive or garden and sell any unwanted goods that you may have, or you may prefer to sell cakes & refreshments. Please do not feel that you must participate in the recycling event!!  We will be asking householders & organisations who join in the recycling event to make a minimum donation of 10% to Huntington Memorial Hall from the money they make during the course of that week-end. Recycling stalls will be advertised and indicated on the Scarecrow Trail map.
Please fill in the entry form on our website as soon as you can or complete the form below if you do not have an e-mail address.

The last date for entries is Friday 31 August 2012. (after this date it will be impossible to include your scarecrow in the Scarecrow Trail Quiz)
